A few months ago I started playing NoomiClone — a free browser physics game by jamesnorth on itch.io — and ended up building a small independent companion site around it: noomicheems.online. It embeds the game, adds an English getting-started guide and a troubleshooting page.
It is not the official game page. That framing turned out to matter more than I expected, so here are three things I learned.
1. Be explicit about what you are not
Fan sites, wrapper sites and "play X here" pages have a trust problem. The cheapest fix is to say it plainly on every page: independent, unofficial, original game by the original author, with a credit line. It also keeps your description honest in directories, social posts and meta tags.
The footer wording I settled on:
Independent, unofficial fan site. The original game is NoomiClone by jamesnorth on itch.io.
2. Embed first, explain second
The homepage plays the game immediately — no landing page, no modal, no "click here to start". The guide and troubleshooting content live on separate URLs, so someone searching "how do I swing higher" lands on an article instead of on a game canvas that eats the whole viewport.
That split also made the site easier to maintain: the game page stays mostly static, and the two content pages carry the writing.
3. Most "it doesn't work" reports are browser problems
Physics games on canvas tend to fail in a small set of ways: hardware acceleration disabled, an extension blocking the embed, a background tab throttled by the browser, or a phone browser that does not map keyboard input. A short troubleshooting checklist resolved more player reports than any feature I added.
If you are building around an embedded browser game, write the checklist before you write the features.

I am not affiliated with the original game — this is a personal project around a game I enjoy.
