VeilPDF: Recover, Protect, and Investigate PDFs Locally
Built a small open-source tool called VeilPDF. It solves two PDF problems I've run into way too often: ✅ Garbled copy-pasted text caused by font obfuscation ✅ "Redacted" PDFs where the hidden text is still extractable
Built a small open-source tool called VeilPDF.
It solves two PDF problems I've run into way too often:
✅ Garbled copy-pasted text caused by font obfuscation
✅ "Redacted" PDFs where the hidden text is still extractable
Everything runs locally. No cloud uploads, no subscriptions.
Features:
scan → inspect fonts, metadata, PDF structure
recover → repair text extraction, with OCR fallback
protect → AES-256 encryption, watermarking, decoy text layers
forensics → find fake redactions and hidden metadata
Optional local AI support via Ollama
Built with:
Rust for the CLI
Python for PDF/OCR tooling
Zig for cryptography
Looking for people willing to test it with weird or broken PDFs and share feedback.
