For many years, Java has often been taught by focusing on tools before teaching the underlying concepts.

Students may learn technologies such as:

Applets
Swing
JSP
Servlets
Spring Boot

without first understanding concepts like:

Object-Oriented Programming
Separation of Responsibilities
Layered Architecture
HTTP Request Processing
Data Persistence

In my opinion, frameworks should help developers become more productive, but they should not replace an understanding of the fundamentals on which they are built.
