Superlogical MCP puts the Rex docs, changelog and Discord threads in your Claude Code session

I got early access to Rex, the terminal from Superlogical, and spent the week moving my sessions over from Ghostty. The part that is hard to write about is that Rex is still a beta: the macOS app and the Linux and FreeBSD servers are out to testers, parts of the docs sit behind a Discord login, and most of the real knowledge, the issues, the workarounds, the reasoning behind a decision, lives in archived threads in the Rex Beta Discord.
// Detect dark theme var iframe = document.getElementById('tweet-2115542930697908587-467'); if (document.body.className.includes('dark-theme')) { iframe.src = "https://platform.twitter.com/embed/Tweet.html?id=2115542930697908587&theme=dark" }
That is a bad shape for an agent. You cannot point Claude Code at a docs site it cannot fully read, and you certainly cannot point it at a Discord server. So Superlogical shipped a community MCP for exactly this, and I added it to the catalog as superlogical today.
What the server actually serves
Three things, all of them things you would otherwise go read by hand:
- The Rex documentation, including the pages that are gated behind a tester login.
- The release notes for every Rex version, pulled from the
#changelogchannel. - Current and archived discussions from the Rex Beta Discord, including the Superlogical team own commentary on issues and design decisions.
The third one is the reason to install it. Documentation tells you what a flag does. The archived threads tell you why the flag exists and what broke before it did, and that is the context you are missing when an agent is doing the reading for you.
Installing it and signing in
It is a remote HTTP server, so there is nothing to run locally. Either command works:
# From the aitmpl catalog
npx claude-code-templates@latest --mcp devtools/superlogical
# Or the command Superlogical documents
claude mcp add -s user --transport http superlogical https://www.superlogical.com/rex/community-mcp
-s user puts it in ~/.claude.json, so it is available in every project on your machine and stays private to your account. That is the right scope here: this is a reference server about your tools, not a dependency of one repo.
Then run /mcp inside Claude Code and finish the login in the browser. The Claude Code docs are explicit that /mcp is how you authenticate with remote servers that use OAuth 2.0, and this one uses Discord. claude mcp list will show the server as needing authentication until you do, and connected afterwards.
The gate is real and worth saying plainly: you need to be a member of the Rex Beta Discord. If you are not in the beta, installing this gets you a server you cannot sign in to. It is not a public docs mirror.
Name it superlogical, not rex
This is the part none of my posts mentioned, and it is the one thing I would get wrong if I were installing it quickly.
Superlogical recommends naming the server superlogical rather than rex, so it does not conflict with Rex skills, instructions, and the CLI. That sounds like a style note until you look at what Rex already installs. Running rex skill setup writes a skill named rex into ~/.claude/skills/rex and adds a hook to ~/.claude/settings.json so each session starts knowing it is inside Rex and which session and terminal it is in.
So if you name the MCP server rex, you now have a skill called rex, a CLI called rex, and a set of tools called mcp__rex__*, all in the same session, all plausible answers when the model decides what to reach for. The install commands above already use the right name. Keep it.
// Detect dark theme var iframe = document.getElementById('tweet-2116166248820060390-945'); if (document.body.className.includes('dark-theme')) { iframe.src = "https://platform.twitter.com/embed/Tweet.html?id=2116166248820060390&theme=dark" }
The naming also decides your permission rules, since tool names are built as mcp__<server>__<tool>:
{
"permissions": {
"allow": ["mcp__superlogical__*"]
}
}
A glob is only allowed after the literal mcp__superlogical__ prefix. Do not write parentheses into an mcp__ rule: Claude Code skips any mcp__ rule containing them when it loads the settings file, and reports it in the invalid-settings dialog and in claude doctor.
What to expect once it is connected
Searching documentation and a Discord archive returns a lot of text, and MCP output is capped. Claude Code warns when MCP tool output goes past 10,000 tokens and limits output to 25,000 tokens by default. MAX_MCP_OUTPUT_TOKENS raises the limit; the warning threshold does not move. Separately, a successful text result longer than 50,000 characters is written to a file instead of being returned inline, and that rule ignores the variable entirely.
In practice that means asking narrow questions. What changed in the last three Rex releases is a good question for this server. Summarize the Discord is how you spend your whole output budget on one call.
// Detect dark theme var iframe = document.getElementById('tweet-2115933086173028674-10'); if (document.body.className.includes('dark-theme')) { iframe.src = "https://platform.twitter.com/embed/Tweet.html?id=2115933086173028674&theme=dark" }
Is it worth it for a beta tool? For me, yes, and only because of the shape of the problem. I am setting up Tailscale to reach my sessions from my phone, and the answers to that kind of question are in threads, not in a reference page. Having the agent read them instead of me scrolling Discord is the entire value. If you are not in the beta, skip this one and come back when Rex opens up.
