Use a small continuity record to catch knowledge and object errors before revising the prose
An AI-assisted scene can read smoothly while containing a continuity defect. A character answers a question they have not heard, reaches for an object left elsewhere, or treats a suspicion as a confirmed fact. Review the sceneβs state changes before polishing individual sentences.
A lightweight record is enough. You do not need a full application or a generated validation script. You need a reliable description of what is true at entry and what changes through visible action.
Define the entry state
Consider an invented scene in which a museum assistant discovers an empty display case. The assistant knows the key is in the office. The guard believes the case is still sealed. A delivery driver has seen a crate leave through a side door, but has not spoken to either character.
Write these facts before drafting. Mark author knowledge separately from character knowledge. The writer can know where the artifact went without allowing the assistant to act on that information immediately.
Generate within a clear boundary
You can use the XPT story generator to develop the scene into prose. Supply the relevant facts, viewpoint, tone and stopping point. Ask that the passage end when the assistant finds the office key missing, leaving the explanation unresolved.
A brief describes your intended constraints; it does not prove the resulting passage observes them. Preserve the source brief beside the draft so that the review has a reference beyond your memory of the request.
Check events in order
For each new fact, identify who learns it and how.
For each important object, note who holds it and when it moves.
For each claim in dialogue, distinguish belief from established fact.
At the end, record the action the changed situation now makes possible.
If the guard suddenly mentions the crate, find the event that supplied that knowledge. If there is none, remove the line or add a justified exchange. Do not add a long explanation merely to preserve an attractive sentence.
Make a targeted repair
Request a revision of the smallest passage that contains the defect. For example: keep the assistantβs discovery, but remove the guardβs knowledge of the delivery; the driver has not spoken to the guard. Then review the revised passage and the transition on either side.
Keep the first draft until the revision is approved. A continuity repair can introduce another change, such as moving the key back into the office to make an action convenient.
This review method treats generated prose as a draft whose events can be inspected. Once the causal record holds, you can spend attention on rhythm, atmosphere and dialogue without building those improvements on an inconsistent scene.
