OpenAI has made its Decisions API widely available, reconfiguring technology from ChatGPT Luna to accelerate inference and reduce costs.

Early implementations show significant performance gains in response times for developers.

To create the new service, OpenAI took existing technology tools and adapted them to reduce response time and cost. The public version now includes voice and image processing capabilities, and the company also used the product to improve the speed of its own voice assistant, Dots.

The early tests involved companies such as Box, Datadog, Ramp and Speak. For example, Speak officials reported that the time between actions was dramatically reduced from 1,4 seconds to just 0,13 seconds.

The market for specialized models that act as fast classifiers is growing rapidly, with similar proposals being presented by various companies and research groups. Among them is the startup TypeSafe, which is valued at $7,6 billion and has created the Jev model, which acts as a superclassifier while also providing confidence scores.
