One Membership, Nine Apps: What the OnePassApps Home Page Actually Counts

I work on OnePassApps, so this is a measurement of our own product on the live site, read on 3 November 2026 in one browser with no account. I clicked the home page's own filters, ran three real file operations while signed out, and wrote down what each app does before it asks you to sign in.

What the home page says

The page title is "OnePassApps โ€” PDF, writing, data and design tools", and the headline under it is "Useful apps. One membership." Then the promise in one sentence: "Access every live app in one place, and vote on what we build next." Two buttons sit under it, "Start free" and "No card required", and three numbered beats spell out the membership: "01 One membership" / "Every live app", "02 Try it first" / "No card required", "03 Help choose next" / "Votes guide priorities".

Below that is a grid called "Your apps" with four counters on it: All 9, Live 2, Tools 0, Studios 7.

The counters, clicked

I clicked each of the four in turn and recorded which app cards stayed on screen.

  • All 9 - nine cards: MovieMatcherAI, NewsFlow and the seven studios.
  • Live 2 - MovieMatcherAI and NewsFlow, the two apps that run on our servers.
  • Studios 7 - the seven browser studios, each with its own Open button.
  • Tools 0 - nothing at all. Not a card, and no empty-state sentence either. A scan of short elements on the page for wording like "nothing here", "no apps", "none yet" or "empty" returned no match.

So "Tools" is a third category in that filter row which currently holds zero apps, and two plus seven is the nine. The counter row is arithmetically honest; the third category is simply empty today.

The nine, with the card copy for each

  • MovieMatcherAI - "Find films, keep a watchlist and rate what you've seen."
  • NewsFlow - "Trusted-source news briefs to read or listen to."
  • Image Studio - "Convert, compress, resize and crop images on this device."
  • Audio Studio - "Trim and convert audio files on this device."
  • File Studio - "Archive, hash, rename and join files locally."
  • Text Studio - "Clean, compare, convert and inspect text."
  • Data Studio - "View and transform CSV, JSON and YAML locally."
  • Icon Studio - "Make favicons and app icons, and work safely with SVG."
  • Colour Studio - "Sample colours, build palettes and check contrast."

The one card in the grid that is not an app yet

Between the Audio Studio card and the File Studio card the grid shows an idea deck: "5 ideas", "IDEA DECK ยท FEATURED", ReadAloud, "Five ideas in the running. Your vote shapes what we build.", and a "Join the vote" button. ReadAloud is one of the five ideas on the community vote board, not a live app, so it is not one of the nine - and it is the only card in the grid without an Open button.

The vote board agrees with that reading: five ideas, every one of them at "TIED AT 0 VOTES ยท IN THE ORDER ADDED", a line that reads "Updates every 30 seconds", and a home page button marked "Request an app". Voting is the gated part - "Sign in to vote for the ideas you'd use" - and the same line adds that Pro also lets you submit an app idea of your own.

Where signing in starts

Signed out, the account control in the nav reads "Account, not signed in". Here is what each surface did before that mattered.

MovieMatcherAI - Browse works. "Discover titles", a counter reading 20 of 89, the tabs All films / New releases / Top rated, and filters for Rating, Genre, Year and Person. The watchlist does not: "Your watchlist starts after sign-in". The ratings tab does not either: "Rate films after you sign in".

NewsFlow - Inbox works: 7 new, 7 stories available, with Global Voices, Universe Today and Electronic Frontier Foundation as the named sources. The queue is open but empty: "Your queue is empty", with a line telling you to add stories from the Inbox or from a brief to hear them in order. Saved is gated: "Saving stories needs an account." Sources is half open: "Starter sources are read-only", 9 followed, 10 shown, and filterable by News, Technology, Entertainment, Social, Research and Podcasts & video.

Guides and Plans are fully open. The guides page carried no sign-in control at all, and the plans page showed the free tier in full.

The seven studios are the opposite: not one of the seven studio pages had a single sign-in affordance on it. And that is more than a missing button - I ran three real operations while signed out.

  • Image Studio, Compress tab: attached a 209-byte PNG and clicked Compress image. The result panel read "Original: 209 B", then "After 785B JPEG", and finished on "276% larger", with "Finished. Output is 275.6% larger." The original was still offered for download. No account prompt appeared at any point.
  • File Studio: attached the same PNG. The stage read "1 file ยท 209 B", and the Create ZIP button ran with no sign-in prompt appearing.
  • Text Studio: pasted 21 characters. The counter read "21 / 2,000,000", with 3 words, 4 lines and 21 UTF-8 bytes, and the result panel went to "Ready". No prompt.

The pattern holds: the studios process in your tab and never ask who you are, while the two hosted apps need an account for anything that persists.

What the membership costs

From the live plans page: Free is $0 per month with "100,000 credits every 30 days", every live OnePassApps app included, settings and saved results kept, and one vote on what we build next. Standard is listed at $5 per month but shows $0 during the promotion, and Pro at $10 per month carries 300,000 credits and two votes plus app ideas. The page also states plainly that "New payments are disabled during the free promotional period", and that "Browser-local tools stay free" - which matches what the seven studios just did.

How the credits are spent is a longer story, and I have written it up separately: https://dev.to/onepassapps/what-onepassapps-credits-actually-buy-reading-the-plans-page-and-its-api-3id

Limits of this pass

  • Signed out, one browser, one build, one day. Nothing here describes what the signed-in version shows, because I did not sign in anywhere.
  • The filter results come from the home page on that day. The "Tools 0" category may be filled later.
  • I clicked the four home page filters and the tabs of the two hosted apps. I did not walk every tab of either app.
  • The studio runs were one operation each: compress, a ZIP stage, and a text clean. Other tabs may behave differently.
  • The vote deck was read, not voted in.
