What if instead of relying on one AI model, you could bring multiple AI agents together to solve complex problems?

That's the idea behind Assembly.

I'm building Assembly, an experimental open-source multi-agent AI workspace where you submit a question, choose a time budget, and let a team of AI agents work independently, compare answers, challenge disagreements, and synthesize a final response with supporting sources and uncertainty notes.

The goal isn't simply to generate another AI response. It's to explore how multiple AI models can collaborate, challenge each other, and improve the reasoning process.

🧠 What's happening under the hood?

Assembly brings together several stages:

  • Planning: Assigns suitable roles to AI agents.
  • Independent reasoning: Agents solve the problem separately.
  • Debate & verification: Agents examine disagreements, evidence, and contradictions.
  • Synthesis: Combines findings into a structured final response.

It's still experimental, and multi-agent consensus doesn't guarantee correctness. That's exactly why testing, evaluation, and reliability matter.

πŸ› οΈ Tech Stack

The project currently uses:

  • Frontend: Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS.
  • Backend: Python, FastAPI.
  • AI: Multi-agent orchestration, model routing, consensus and debate.
  • Testing: Pytest, Vitest, Playwright.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’» Who am I looking for?

I'm looking for contributors interested in:

  • Frontend development and UI/UX improvements.
  • Python, FastAPI, and backend engineering.
  • AI agents and LLM orchestration.
  • Model provider integrations.
  • Testing, debugging, and performance improvements.
  • Cybersecurity, privacy, and reliability.
  • Documentation and developer experience.

You don't need to be an AI expert to contribute. Developers at different experience levels are welcome.

🀝 How to Get Involved

Getting started is simple:

  1. Visit the Assembly GitHub Repository.
  2. Explore the codebase and existing issues.
  3. Check the Contributing Guidelines.
  4. Pick an issue, share your ideas, and submit a pull request.

Small improvements, bug fixes, testing, and documentation contributions are just as valuable.

🌟 Let's Build Together

Assembly is an evolving open-source project, and I'd love to have more developers involved in shaping its direction.

Whether you're interested in AI, full-stack development, backend engineering, or simply want to make your first open-source contribution, there's room to collaborate.

Star the repository, explore the project, and consider becoming a contributor.
