JetBrains Restructured Its AI Pricing Twice in Two Months — Here's What Actually Changed

JetBrains AI has restructured its pricing twice since early September — not a typo, twice — and if you last checked its pricing page before that, what you remember is already wrong on two separate counts.

6 September 2026: the old flat Personal $10 / Commercial $20 licence split was replaced by named tiers — AI Pro (personal $10/mo, commercial $20/user/mo) and AI Ultimate (personal $30/mo, commercial $60/user/mo).

19 October 2026, six weeks later: restructured again. The commercial-seat split is gone entirely. There's now a genuine free tier (unlimited code completion, 3 AI credits/mo), AI Pro is a flat $10/mo (10 credits) regardless of personal or commercial use, and AI Ultimate is $30/mo (35 credits). Organizations now buy shared credits at API price, with an optional Air Governance layer (Basic free, Business $20/seat/mo, Enterprise custom) instead of per-seat commercial pricing.

Net effect for an individual developer: JetBrains AI is now simpler and, if you were on the old Commercial tier, meaningfully cheaper. For a team, the pricing model changed shape entirely — from a seat multiplier to a credit pool plus an optional governance add-on — which is a different budgeting conversation than the one you had two months ago.

We track this against Claude Code ($20/mo via Pro) because it's one of the more common "do I need a terminal agent or is my IDE's assistant enough" comparisons we see. They don't really compete head-on — JetBrains AI is tier-restricted to JetBrains IDEs with its Junie agent, no terminal mode, no VS Code support; Claude Code is editor-agnostic and runs from any terminal. Of the 15 dimensions we track between them, they differ on 8, mostly around where each one runs rather than raw capability.

If you're choosing between them: pick JetBrains AI if you already live in a JetBrains IDE and want inline completion plus an agent that doesn't leave the editor. Pick Claude Code if you want something that works the same way whether you're in VS Code, a JetBrains IDE, or just a terminal with no IDE open at all.
