"I'll just": a field guide to nerds and geeks

One Saturday morning, while everybody else was asleep, I tinkered with my image tool until it finally made a clay figure that looked like me. That took from 05:00 to 10:00, and it made me ask: am I a nerd or a geek now?

One Saturday morning, while everybody else was asleep, I tinkered with my image tool until it finally made a clay figure that looked like me. That took from 05:00 to 10:00, and it made me ask: am I a nerd or a geek now?

Here is my definition, and it's mine alone. Both are equally enthusiastic. The geek brings the first, often half-finished ideas and lets go a little early. The nerd doesn't quit until it's done. A team needs both, and I seem to be both myself.

It isn't the dictionary's definition, and the origin of "nerd" is disputed. The image results come from one photo of me, so call them a single test, not a study.

The full post has:

  • a six-question self-test to paste into your team channel
  • the floppy disk test
  • the makeImage command I used for the identity edit
