I Launched Aharon Cloud: An Israeli SMS API with Webhooks and Node.js

Hey DEV Community! ๐Ÿ‘‹

I'm the developer behind Aharon Cloud, a SaaS project I've been building with Node.js, Express, and MySQL.

After working on the platform, I've finally launched it!

Full disclosure: This is my own commercial project. I'm sharing it to explain what I built and get feedback from other developers.

The problem I wanted to solve

Sometimes an application needs to receive SMS messages on a real Israeli phone number.

But integrating incoming SMS into a backend shouldn't necessarily require maintaining another physical phone or SIM card.

I wanted to build a service that makes incoming SMS accessible to developers, automation tools, and business applications.

That's how Aharon Cloud started.

What I built

Aharon Cloud provides virtual Israeli phone numbers for receiving SMS messages.

The platform currently supports:

  • Virtual Israeli numbers โ€” Receive SMS without managing an additional physical phone.
  • Web dashboard โ€” View and manage incoming messages.
  • Email forwarding โ€” Forward incoming messages to an email address.
  • Webhooks โ€” Deliver incoming SMS events to external systems.
  • REST API โ€” Access messages and integrate them into custom applications.

The backend is built using Node.js, Express, and MySQL.

How the integration works

The basic message flow looks like this:

Incoming SMS โ†’ Virtual Number โ†’ Aharon Cloud โ†’ Webhook / API / Email โ†’ Your Application

For example, a developer could connect incoming SMS events to a CRM, support system, or automation workflow.

A webhook can notify an external application when a new message arrives, while the API provides another way to access message data.

A quick API example

The API uses server-side Bearer token authentication.

Here's a simple example of requesting incoming messages:

curl --request GET \
  --url "https://app.aharon.cloud/api/v1/messages" \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_SERVER_TOKEN" \
  --header "Accept: application/json"

API credentials should remain on the server and should never be exposed in client-side JavaScript.

The developer documentation is available here:

Current limitations

I want to be transparent about what the platform can and cannot do.

  • The service currently supports receiving SMS, not sending SMS.
  • Receiving verification codes from third-party services is not guaranteed.
  • Number allocation depends on available inventory.
  • The service is focused on Israeli phone numbers.

The launch

Aharon Cloud is now publicly available, with monthly plans starting at โ‚ช9.

You can check it out here:

I'd love your feedback!

I'm especially interested in hearing from developers who build integrations or automation systems.

A few questions:

  1. Would you prefer webhooks or polling an API for receiving SMS events?
  2. What features would make this service more useful in your projects?
  3. Would a service like this fit into your existing automation workflows?

I'm continuing to improve the platform and would really appreciate technical feedback.

Thanks for reading! ๐Ÿš€
