I Built SnapByFace to Make Finding People Across Videos Easier
Have you ever recorded hours of videos and later needed to find every moment where a particular person appears?
Maybe you're looking for someone in a collection of event recordings, family videos, or other personal media. Going through every file manually can become tedious, especially when your collection grows.
That was the kind of problem I wanted to explore when building SnapByFace.
The Problem: Finding One Person Across Many Files
Photos and videos capture plenty of useful moments, but finding a specific person later isn't always easy.
Traditional file browsing often means opening files one by one, scrubbing through timelines, and trying to remember where someone appeared.
I wanted to make that search process easier.
What Is SnapByFace?
SnapByFace is a tool designed to help users find a person across photos and videos.
Instead of manually checking every file, users can use the tool to search their media for relevant appearances.

Why I Built It
As an independent developer, I enjoy building practical tools that solve specific problems.
SnapByFace is one of my attempts to make working with personal media more convenient. I wanted to explore how person-based search could help people navigate collections of photos and videos more efficiently.
Privacy is also an important consideration when building tools that work with personal media. The exact privacy properties depend on how a tool processes and stores data, so I encourage users to review the product's privacy information before using it.
I'd Love to Hear Your Feedback
I'm continuing to improve SnapByFace and would love to hear from people who work with large collections of photos or videos.
A few questions I'm thinking about:
- How do you currently find a particular person in your videos?
- What makes searching personal media frustrating?
- What features would make this workflow more useful for you?
If this sounds like a problem you've encountered, take a look at SnapByFace:
