If you're importing a car into Morocco, the customs bill depends on stuff nobody tells you upfront (the value customs uses is not what you paid for the car, it's the new-model value minus an age-based discount). I built a free calculator that runs the whole math: import duty, 20% import VAT, the 0.25% parafiscal tax, and the returning-resident discount if that applies to you.

Two things trip people up the most:

  1. A good deal on the purchase price does not lower your duties. Two identical cars bought for different prices get taxed the same, because customs starts from the model's value new, not your invoice.
  2. The origin of the car changes everything. A car built in the EU with proof of origin (EUR.1 certificate) gets a heavily reduced duty rate. Without that paper, you pay the full rate, and the gap runs into thousands of dirhams. Ask for that document before you pay, you basically can't get it once the car has shipped.

Try the Morocco car customs calculator, free, no signup, based on the 2026 ADII schedule.

Give it a shot and let me know if the numbers match what customs actually charged you.
