I audited my own deals site: most 50%+ discounts have no price record behind them

Fazy exists to check discounts against price history. This week I pointed the same check at Fazy itself.
On Nov 2 we pulled 166 unique in-stock deals across seven categories from our own public API, the same feed anyone can query. 65 of them advertise a discount of 50% or more.
Then the humbling part. A discount counts as verified in our system only when the deal carries a price fact confirming it is the lowest price we have recorded. Of those 65 big advertised discounts, only 6, that is 9%, clear that bar. Only 11 of the 65 carry any price fact at all. Across all 166 deals, 84% have no price fact behind the percentage on the tile.
To be precise about what this measures: it is the share of advertised discounts Fazy's own price record backs. No price fact does not prove a discount is fake. It means we have not recorded the history that would prove it, and an unproven discount should be labeled as exactly that.
The verified minority shows what good looks like. Two Brooklinen sham sets sit at 75% off, each flagged as the lowest price we have recorded, one since 25 Jul 2026 and one since 21 Aug 2026. Date, prior evidence, proof. Every deal should be able to say that.
This is the same gap behind our was-price study, which used our internal tracking to check claimed was-prices against recorded history: https://fazy.com/blog/was-prices-we-never-saw?src=devto. The index above is the public version, computed only from what the API returns, and we rerun it regularly. The trendline is also the product roadmap: get the verified share up, or stop shouting the percentages we cannot back.
Run the audit yourself: the API and MCP server are free, no key, at https://fazy.com/developers?src=devto. I built Fazy, and I would rather publish our 9% than hide it.
