In the last 2-3 months, I audited more than 1000 business websites and also shared a detailed report by email. I can do this because my Chrome extension, Affiscope, audits full websites within minutes. But this post is not about promoting my Affiscope extension. This is about the shocking facts which I got to know when I audited those business websites.

I started the audit in the US/UK and Canada regions and found 3 major mistakes that impact the revenue of the business. The problem is cause of because of negligence or Inexperience of developer team. These are basic issues that I found in most websites and that were draining the ad budget of the business. The most common issues are as follows:

1. Too Slow On Mobile Devices

There are major business websites that load very slowly on mobile devices, even though their performance is top-notch on desktop. The reason behind this is that too heavy images were used on the website without any optimisation. This is because the developers which develops those business portfolio are too inexperienced. Also some of the website having some third party javascript files which blocking on the mobile devices. This are the issues which business never found on their desktop but when they load the websites on mobile devices it takes more 30 seconds to load and this is cause there mobile traffics were bounces from the website as no customer wants to stay on website which takes more than 5-6 seconds to load. I also visited Google Ads Transparency to check those business ad campaigns and found that those businesses were actively spending on the ad campaigns that target both desktop and mobile.

I just have tips for all the developers who are currently working on such business portfolios: if you develop any features or any section on business portfolios, then just analyse the performance on mobile as well so you will be able to know the issue at an early stage, as one development issue will cause business revenue.

Also, I created a video on these issues; if you have time, then watch this

2. Basic Compliance and Security Issues

These are very basic mistakes, as a lot of websites only have dead links pointing to the privacy policy. As those websites worked without any privacy policy, when the customer clicked on those links those were landing at the page with 404 error. Also, some of the websites didn't have SSL certificates, and some of the websites had SSL certificates, but their developers didn't enable the always HTTPS rule via the .htaccess file or the DNS entries.

These type of issue is presence because of the business were not audited their websites and having the too much trust on developers team. When I reached out to them about their audits, they simply stated that our developers are too smart and they didn't make such mistakes, but when I showed them proof, their trust was simply broken. Here, I want to guide those developers who are currently working on a business portfolio: if you don't have experience with DNS entries or .htaccess files, then talk with an expert and implement those things for your clients, as these are simple things, but if they are not followed, then your clients' businesses will face legal issues.

3. Not Having the Proper Layout and CTA

This is the most common issue which is faced by most of the business websites in which lot of business websites were didnt having the proper CTA's on mobile devices. When I saw the website on mobile devices, I found that most of the websites didn't have a call button and only had the " Call Now " text at the first. From a customer pov those are simple text, but when I clicked on that text, it worked as the call button; however, without proper UI visuals, customers will not know these are buttons.

Also, some of those websites do not have the proper layout; in the hero section, one YouTube video is playing, but the section on the hero page is blank. Some of the websites have a very good landing page, but when we visit their contact page, it looks distorted.

These issues were not that big, but they will impact the revenue of the business. Also, there are other issues present, like spam protection is not on the contact form; some of them do not have a working email, as their emails were bouncing. But from the developers' POV, when we think about the above 3 issues I mentioned, they will be easily solved in the development phase if they focus a little bit on each website.
