How to Swap Safely on Solana: A Practical Checklist

Swapping tokens on Solana is fast and cheap, which is great, until a rushed click sends funds to the wrong token or a fake site. Most losses in crypto don't come from clever hacks. They come from small, avoidable mistakes. This guide walks through the habits that keep you safe, whatever exchange you use, and explains how swaps work on Craic Hub Exchange.

1. Start with wallet hygiene

Your wallet is your bank, your ID and your signature all in one. Treat it that way.

  • Use a reputable wallet. Phantom, Solflare and Backpack are widely used Solana wallets. Download them only from the official site or your device's official app store.
  • Keep a "hot" and a "cold" wallet. Use one wallet with a small balance for everyday swaps and trying new sites. Keep larger holdings in a separate wallet, ideally on a hardware device, that rarely connects to anything.
  • Keep software updated. Wallet updates often include security fixes and better transaction warnings.
  • Bookmark the sites you use. Phishing sites copy real exchanges pixel for pixel and are often promoted through search ads or replies on social media. Open sites from your own bookmarks, not from links in DMs.
  • Lock your wallet when you're done. Set an auto-lock timer and a strong password.

2. Never share your seed phrase. Ever.

Your seed phrase (the 12 or 24 recovery words) gives total control of your wallet to anyone who has it. Keep these rules absolute:

  • No legitimate exchange, wallet, support agent, moderator or "airdrop" will ever ask for it.
  • Never type it into a website, a form, a chat, or a "wallet validation" tool.
  • Don't store it in screenshots, cloud notes or email. Write it down and keep it somewhere physically safe.
  • If someone asks for it, they are trying to rob you. Block them and move on.

If you ever think your seed phrase has been exposed, create a new wallet straight away and move your funds to it.

3. Check the contract address, not just the name

On Solana, anyone can create a token with any name, ticker and logo. There can be dozens of tokens called the same thing. The only reliable identifier is the mint (contract) address.

  • Get the contract address from the project's official channels, such as its website, official X account or Telegram, and cross-check at least two of them.
  • Paste the address into the swap search rather than picking a ticker from a list.
  • Look the address up on a block explorer like Solscan. Check the token's name, supply, holders and whether mint and freeze authority have been revoked.
  • Compare the first and last few characters carefully. Scammers create look-alike addresses.

For example, the official $CRAIC mint address is GXNXwLeoeupXEvufsXDQoEfk1immBtaE4kVFC4tBpump. Verify it yourself against the official channels before using it.

4. Understand slippage

Slippage is the difference between the price you see when you set up a swap and the price you get when it executes. Prices can move in the seconds between clicking and confirming, especially for tokens with thin liquidity.

  • Slippage tolerance is the maximum movement you'll accept. If the price moves more than that, the swap fails instead of completing at a worse rate.
  • Too low and your swaps may fail repeatedly on volatile tokens.
  • Too high and you're exposed to bad fills and "sandwich" attacks, where bots trade around your swap to profit from your tolerance.
  • Start with a modest setting and raise it only if needed and only for tokens you've already verified.
  • Watch the price impact figure too. A high price impact means your swap is large relative to the pool, and you'll get noticeably less than the headline rate.

5. Read every approval prompt

Every swap ends with your wallet asking you to sign. This is your last chance to catch a problem, so slow down.

  • Check what you're signing. Your wallet should show the tokens and amounts leaving and arriving. If it shows something unexpected, reject it.
  • Be wary of blind or unusual requests. A simple swap shouldn't need you to sign messages granting broad permissions or transferring unrelated tokens.
  • Heed wallet warnings. Modern wallets simulate transactions and flag known malicious sites. Don't click past a warning because a stranger told you it's fine.
  • Disconnect sites you no longer use from your wallet's connected apps list.

6. How swaps work on Craic Hub Exchange

Craic Hub Exchange is non-custodial. That means:

  • You connect your own wallet and sign every transaction yourself.
  • Craic Hub never holds your tokens, your keys or your seed phrase, and never asks for them.
  • Swaps are routed through Jupiter, Solana's widely used swap aggregator, which searches across liquidity sources for an available route. The swap executes directly from your wallet.

A typical swap looks like this:

  1. Open the site from your bookmark and connect your wallet.
  2. Choose the token you're paying with and the token you want. Paste the contract address for anything you haven't verified before.
  3. Review the route, price impact, fee line and slippage setting.
  4. Read the wallet prompt carefully, then approve.
  5. Check the confirmed transaction on Solscan.

If you pay platform fees in $CRAIC, that's covered by one simple rule: Fees paid in $CRAIC are burned.

7. A quick pre-swap checklist

  • Am I on the real site, opened from my bookmark?
  • Did I verify the contract address from official sources?
  • Is my slippage sensible for this token?
  • Does the wallet prompt show exactly what I expect?
  • Am I using my everyday wallet, not my long-term storage?

If any answer is "no" or "not sure", stop and check. Nobody has ever lost money by waiting a minute.
