Hello, DEV! Happy to share what we've learned about making games

Hi everyone! 👋 I just joined DEV, and I wanted to say hello before I start posting. Our small team builds games that run in the browser, and most of what we know came from getting things wrong and then working out why.

Hi everyone! 👋

I just joined DEV, and I wanted to say hello before I start posting.

Our small team builds games that run in the browser, and most of what we know came from getting things wrong and then working out why. A game can look finished and still feel off, and the reason is often a tiny detail: a button that responds a little late, an animation that stutters on an older phone, or a random result that doesn't feel random.

I'm happy to share what we've learned along the way, and I plan to write about:

  • Game feel: the small touches that make a simple game satisfying to play
  • Game maths: randomness, balance, and how to test that the numbers are right
  • Performance: keeping games smooth on the phones people really own
  • Translation: getting a game ready for players in other languages

I'm still learning too, so I'd love to hear from you. What are you building right now? And what's the one game dev lesson you wish you'd learned sooner?

Glad to be here!
