Getting Started with Headless CMS: A Practical Guide
A headless CMS separates where content is stored from where it is displayed. Your editors work in an admin panel, and your frontends β a website, a mobile app, a smartwatch β fetch that content over an API.
Why go headless?
- Freedom of frontend. Use React, Vue, Svelte, or plain HTML. The CMS doesn't care.
- One source of truth. Publish once, reuse everywhere.
- Better performance. Pair it with static generation and a CDN for fast pages.
Core concepts
- Content types describe the shape of your data (a Blog has a title, body, and tags).
- Entries are the actual pieces of content.
- APIs (REST or GraphQL) expose entries to your apps.
Your first request
curl http://localhost:1337/api/blogs
That's it β you get JSON back, ready to render.
Wrapping up
Start small: one content type, one frontend page. Once the loop of edit β publish β fetch clicks, everything else is incremental.
