Stuck in Tutorial Hell? We Built an AI Tool That Turns Your Ideas Into Buildable Projects 🚀
Ever opened your code editor, ready to build something, but spent the next 2 hours wondering...
"What should I actually build?" 🤔
You search for project ideas, watch tutorials, bookmark GitHub repositories, and somehow end up building nothing.
We've experienced this too.
So, instead of searching for another project idea, we decided to build something that could help developers find their next challenge.
Introducing IdeaZen — an AI-powered project idea generator and coding mentor. 🧠

💡 What exactly is IdeaZen?
IdeaZen isn't just another chatbot that throws random project ideas at you.
It's designed to understand your interests, skill level, preferred technologies, and available time, then turn that information into practical project ideas and structured building plans.
The goal is simple:
Spend less time deciding what to build and more time actually building it.
✨ What can you do with IdeaZen?
1. Personalized AI Project Ideas
Tell IdeaZen about your skills, interests, experience level, and goals.
It generates three personalized project ideas that match your preferences.
2. Complete Project Blueprints
Found an idea you like?
Take it further with a detailed project blueprint containing:
- Core project features
- Recommended technology stack
- Development phases
- Actionable tasks
- Estimated timelines
- First-commit guidance
Instead of staring at an empty VS Code window, you'll have a starting point.
3. Hackathon Mode ⚡
Have a hackathon coming up?
IdeaZen also includes a dedicated Hackathon Mode.
Provide your problem statement and get an hour-by-hour development plan to help organize your time and focus on building.
4. AI Mentor Controls
Don't like the complexity of a generated project?
Refine your project plan by asking the AI to:
- Simplify the project.
- Increase the difficulty.
- Refine the implementation direction.
5. Your Personal Idea Library
Save generated ideas, track your progress, search through saved projects, and export your plans as PDFs.
You can also share project plans through shareable links.
🛠️ Tech Stack Behind IdeaZen
We wanted to build something practical while exploring modern web technologies and AI integration.
Here's what powers it:
| Technology | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Next.js | Application framework |
| React 19 | UI development |
| TypeScript | Type safety |
| Tailwind CSS v4 | Styling |
| Groq API | AI inference |
| GPT-OSS 120B | Primary AI model |
| GPT-OSS 20B | Backup model |
| Zod | Input validation |
| Vitest | Testing |
| Vercel | Deployment |
A small architectural decision worth mentioning
IdeaZen doesn't require user accounts or a traditional database.
Saved ideas and progress are stored locally in the browser using localStorage. Shareable plans are encoded into URL fragments.
We wanted to keep the experience lightweight and avoid unnecessary account creation.
We also implemented API-side validation, request limits, prompt-injection screening, and output normalization to make AI-generated content safer to handle.
👨💻 Built Together
IdeaZen was developed collaboratively by:
- Nirmit Angane — @Nirmit-Angane
- Piyush Prajapat — @piyushthdev27
Building with another developer brings a different perspective to the process. It's an opportunity to exchange ideas, solve problems, and learn beyond working on individual projects.
Big thanks to Piyush for being part of this journey! 🤝
🚀 What's Next?
IdeaZen is something we want to keep improving.
There are plenty of opportunities to make project discovery and planning even better.
We're interested in hearing what features developers would actually find useful.
❤️ We'd Love Your Feedback!
If you're a beginner trying to escape tutorial hell, an intermediate developer looking for challenging projects, or someone preparing for a hackathon, give IdeaZen a try.

One question for fellow developers:
What's the biggest challenge you face when starting a new project — finding an idea, choosing the tech stack, or actually finishing it?
Let us know in the comments. We'd genuinely love to hear your experiences!
