Employee monitoring tools can collect extremely detailed behavior: location, video, email activity, device events and login history.

The technical ability to collect that data is not the same as a legal justification to collect all of it.

Cameras

Define the security or employment-control purpose, inform workers and avoid capturing unnecessary areas.

Audio recording requires even stronger caution.

GPS

Location may be useful for route management or company vehicles during working time. Continuous off-hours tracking is a different and more intrusive scenario.

Corporate email and devices

Organizations should define acceptable-use rules before accessing content becomes necessary.

Clarify:

  • personal-use limits;
  • security monitoring;
  • exceptional access;
  • absence procedures;
  • retention;
  • offboarding.

Cybersecurity logs

Security telemetry can be legitimate and important, but it should remain tied to security purposes.

Do not quietly turn endpoint security into permanent productivity surveillance.

Remote work

Working from home does not remove employer oversight, but monitoring must still respect private life. Always-on webcam requirements are far more intrusive than recording access to a corporate application.

The design question is simple: collect only what the stated purpose really needs.
