Edit Your AI Headshot to Look Natural, Not Airbrushed

Your edit is only as good as your starting point. I’ve seen clients bring me AI headshots where their face is at a 90-degree angle, or their eyes are looking somewhere a human neck could never twist. You can’t fix that. The best AI base image has three things: a neutral, friendly expression, eyes looking directly at the lens, and shoulders squared to the camera. Anything else creates an uncanny valley you’ll fight forever.

Look for the photo that looks most like you on a good Tuesday, not your fantasy superhero version. Does the hairline match yours? Is the jawline within the realm of biological possibility? I once had a client show me an AI result where she had perfectly symmetrical dimples she’s never possessed; we had to start over. Choose the image where you recognize your own spirit in the pixels.

This is where most people fail. They see a pore and panic. Your goal is not to create a plastic mask, but to even out discolorations while keeping the landscape of your face. In your editing software, find the clarity or texture slider. Pull it to the right, +10 to +15. See those fine lines around your eyes and the unique texture of your skin come back? Good. Now they look like character, not flaws.

Use the healing brush only for temporary blemishes—a lone pimple, a stray hair. Leave your beauty marks, your freckles, your one slightly asymmetrical eyebrow. They are your signature. A completely uniform skin tone, especially under the chin and around the hairline, is a dead giveaway. Let there be a slight, natural variation in color.

This gently frames your face and anchors it to your shoulders. Is the white of your eye actually bright blue? Use a hue/saturation adjustment to pull the cyan and blue sliders down until they look natural , not electric.
