A Windows .ico file can hold several sizes of the same image inside one file. Making one usually means uploading your icon to a converter site and hoping the file comes back untouched.
I work on OnePassApps. Our Icon Studio does that conversion in the tab: drop a PNG on the stage, press one button, and the .ico file is written on your own device.
What the PNG to ICO tab says
The Icon Studio carries eight tools (SVG to PNG, PNG to ICO, Favicon pack, App icons, Resize set, Optimize SVG, Recolour SVG and Trim / padding). The PNG to ICO panel is laid out in three steps:
- 01 Source - "No PNG yet. Drop one on the stage or browse for it. PNG up to 24 MiB and 12,000 px a side."
- 02 Sizes included - "The ICO holds 16, 32 and 48 pixel PNG images on transparent backgrounds."
- 03 Result - "One ICO holding the 16, 32 and 48 pixel images."
The action button reads "Create ICO". Before you pick a file the panel says "Add a PNG to start. Your original stays untouched.", and the page itself says "Processing stays in this browser."
A real run
I dropped a 256 ร 256 PNG (1.4 KiB) on the stage and pressed Create ICO. The options panel read Sizes "16, 32 and 48 px", Encoding "PNG images in one ICO" and Background "Transparent, centred", and the result panel read:
- Ready
- Before: 1.4 KiB PNG
- After: 932 B ICO
- Contents: 3 PNG images
- File name: probe-ico.ico
- Created in 0.3 s
The file list underneath showed the three images inside the ICO:
- 16 ร 16 - PNG, 205 B
- 32 ร 32 - PNG, 289 B
- 48 ร 48 - PNG, 384 B
with "ICO created with 16 ร 16, 32 ร 32, 48 ร 48 PNG images." and a Download ICO button.
What it costs
Standard is free right now: $0 / month, 100,000 credits every 30 days, no end date set, no card required, and no automatic paid subscription. Existing paid subscriptions keep their terms.
Where to go next
The guides list the other icon and file tools in the same membership.
I work on OnePassApps. Every line above was read or produced in the live app, in the browser tab - there was no upload step.
