BMAD vs Halfcycle: personas you direct, or a team that runs itself

We make Halfcycle, so read this with that in mind. BMAD is open source and well made; the full comparison, with every source, is on our site.
The BMAD Method adds the roles of an agile team to your coding tool as skills and named personas: analyst, product manager, architect, developer and more, each with its own commands.
What BMAD does well
- Product-level planning. Product brief, PRD, UX design, architecture and stories. Halfcycle does this too: a product spec, the architecture, the phases and a design for each component.
- Reviews from several angles, each finding sorted with a reason. Halfcycle does this too: each task is reviewed twice by an agent that did not build it, and each finding is recorded with its outcome.
- The smallest safe route inside a build. Halfcycle does this too, and makes the call before the work starts as well.
- Generated API and end-to-end tests. Halfcycle runs tests before and after every change, and clicks through the live app in a browser at the end of each phase.
- Open source, most coding tools. Halfcycle works with Claude Code and OpenAI Codex too, with OpenCode coming soon.
What Halfcycle adds
- Nobody has to drive. In BMAD you choose how much planning a change gets and call each persona. Halfcycle sizes the process from the parts of your system a change touches and tells you why.
- Parallel building. BMAD runs one build session at a time; parallel work needs a separate coordination layer. Halfcycle runs builders and reviewers at once, each on its own copy of the code.
- A console, instead of files and a status command: progress, phases, the system design, every agent, and approvals recorded part by part.
- Learning across projects. BMAD keeps project context. Halfcycle learns from every project it runs on: the cause and the fix reach yours automatically (the shape of a problem, never your code).
- Risky actions checked before they happen. BMAD's docs describe nothing that blocks them.
When BMAD is the better choice
You want open source you can extend, you work offline, you use another coding tool, or you like directing each role yourself.
