Developer tools and AI agent products are hard to show. There is no screen to point at, the buyer is technical, and a feature list reads like every other landing page. A short explainer can fix that, if it follows a structure that respects how developers watch.

Here is the 60-second storyboard I use when I animate explainers for dev tools and AI products. It works for an API, an agent platform or a no-code builder.

The storyboard

Seconds Beat What the viewer should think
0-6 The problem in one line "That is my problem."
6-16 The old way, shown "Yes, that is painful."
16-30 The product doing one job "Oh, that is what it does."
30-45 Proof of the result "And it works."
45-55 Who it is for "That includes me."
55-60 One next step "I know what to click."

Five rules that keep it clear

  1. Show one job, not the whole product. Pick the single result a new user cares about. Everything else belongs in the docs.
  2. Define a technical term once, on screen. If the product is a headless browser for agents, say what that means the first time and then reuse the term.
  3. Show the result, not the config. Code and settings are fine as small supporting cards. The viewer should see the outcome change.
  4. Make it work with sound off. Most people watch muted. Put the key claim in large, readable type.
  5. Cut anything that does not change the viewer's understanding. If a scene could be removed without a loss, remove it.

Length

For a homepage, 45 to 90 seconds is usually enough. For ads and social, cut 15 to 30 second versions from the same project. A product demo is a different video: it proves the product works, while an explainer shows why it matters. Many teams use the explainer first and the demo second.

Before you hire anyone

Write the one-sentence promise first: "[Product] helps [who] do [job] without [pain]." If you cannot write that sentence, the video will not fix it, and a designer cannot either.
