On October 22, 2026, 1Password announced 1Password for Agents, a way for AI agents to sign in to websites on a user's behalf without the credential ever passing through the agent.

How the flow works, according to the announcement:

  • Explicit approval: when an agent hits a login page, it pauses and requests a credential. The user sees which one is needed and why, and approves or denies.
  • 1Password fills the form itself, so the password never lands in the prompt or the agent's context.
  • Agent identity: the agent proves who it is to 1Password with its own unique digital key.
  • No reuse: once the site accepts the login, the credential is removed so the agent can't read or replay it later in the task.
  • Scoped access: the rest of the vault stays out of reach, which shrinks the attack surface.

It's waitlist-only for now, so broad rollout hasn't started.
